HEADWAY MILTON KEYNES

Improving Life After Brain Injury

At Headway Milton Keynes, we aim to make a lasting impact in the Milton Keynes community and beyond.

We offer rehabilitation services to those who have suffered a brain injury, alongside support for families, friends and carers. We aim to help individuals reach their goals, increase confidence and independence while allowing for positive changes.

Our initiatives and activities are designed to catalyze true transformation. But above all, passion is at the heart and soul of everything that we do.

ABOUT BRAIN INJURY

Headway Milton Keynes supports individuals aged 18+, and their families / carers, who have suffered a brain injury.

Brain injury is the largest cause of acquired disability in the working-age population.

No two brain injuries are the same and can completely change the lives of those living with a brain injury, their families and friends. The injury can affect physical, cognitive, behavioural and emotional functioning.

Common causes of an acquired brain injury are:

  • Stroke

  • Road Traffic Accidents

  • Accidents (home, work, sport or lifestyle)

  • Domestic and street assaults

  • Cerebral Anoxia

  • Poisoning – carbon monoxide, solvents

  • Alcohol or drug abuse

  • Epilepsy

  • Encephalitis

  • Infection – including Meningitis

  • Tumour

  • Surgery or anaesthetic accident

For more information and factsheets, please visit Headway UK's website.

It can be very hard for individuals and their families to cope with injuries like these. It can directly impact on day-to-day tasks, leisure activities, work / education and behaviours / personality changes.

Please get in touch with us if you are concerned about yourself or a family member or a friend.

Service Manager

After completing a Psychology Degree, Keri joined the Headway team as coordinator, working her way up to the senior position. We said a brief goodbye when she went to work in the NHS, managing a large caseload of patients across six surgeries as a social prescriber.
"I've always held a place in my heart for Headway MK, and the work the team do. The service has come incredibly far and I hope to expand the service to reach more individuals in the area who are seeking brain injury rehabilitation. I feel proud to work for Headway MK and I am keen on ensuring our clients receive the best service in their brain injury journey"

CATHERINE SHAW

Operations Manager

I am an experienced operational and people manager, having held customer service and relationship manager roles throughout my 30+ year career within large commercial (mostly financial services) and public (NHS, and local government) sector organisations.

I’ve been with Headway since May 2023 and I’m loving being part of a small, close-knit team and although I’m mainly responsible for the “back office” processes, I still have regular direct contact with our Clients and their families. It is particularly rewarding to see first-hand the positive impact the service has on their lives and to feel part of that process.
