Improving Life After Brain Injury

At Headway Milton Keynes, we aim to make a lasting impact in the Milton Keynes community and beyond.

We offer rehabilitation services to those who have suffered a brain injury, alongside support for families, friends and carers. We aim to help individuals reach their goals, increase confidence and independence while allowing for positive changes.

Our initiatives and activities are designed to catalyze true transformation. But above all, passion is at the heart and soul of everything that we do.

Headway Milton Keynes supports individuals aged 18+, and their families / carers, who have suffered a brain injury.

Brain injury is the largest cause of acquired disability in the working-age population.

No two brain injuries are the same and can completely change the lives of those living with a brain injury, their families and friends. The injury can affect physical, cognitive, behavioural and emotional functioning.

Common causes of an acquired brain injury are:

  • Stroke

  • Road Traffic Accidents

  • Accidents (home, work, sport or lifestyle)

  • Domestic and street assaults

  • Cerebral Anoxia

  • Poisoning – carbon monoxide, solvents

  • Alcohol or drug abuse

  • Epilepsy

  • Encephalitis

  • Infection – including Meningitis

  • Tumour

  • Surgery or anaesthetic accident

For more information and factsheets, please visit Headway UK's website.

It can be very hard for individuals and their families to cope with injuries like these. It can directly impact on day-to-day tasks, leisure activities, work / education and behaviours / personality changes.

Please get in touch with us if you are concerned about yourself or a family member or a friend.

The Faces of Our Charity

Our dedicated team of experienced professionals are at the heart of what we do, utilizing their unique skills and passion to move the work of our Charity forward.

Meet the team below.

Service Manager

After completing a Psychology Degree, Keri joined the Headway team as coordinator, working her way up to the senior position. We said a brief goodbye when she went to work in the NHS, managing a large caseload of patients across six surgeries as a social prescriber.
"I've always held a place in my heart for Headway MK, and the work the team do. The service has come incredibly far and I hope to expand the service to reach more individuals in the area who are seeking brain injury rehabilitation. I feel proud to work for Headway MK and I am keen on ensuring our clients receive the best service in their brain injury journey"

Operations Manager

I am an experienced operational and people manager, having held customer service and relationship manager roles throughout my 30+ year career within large commercial (mostly financial services) and public (NHS, and local government) sector organisations.

I’ve been with Headway since May 2023 and I’m loving being part of a small, close-knit team and although I’m mainly responsible for the “back office” processes, I still have regular direct contact with our Clients and their families. It is particularly rewarding to see first-hand the positive impact the service has on their lives and to feel part of that process.

Brain Injury Co-Ordinator

Having worked in neuro-rehab most of her life, previously acting as a therapy assistant, and activity coordinator. Petra begun her journey with us by volunteering in our communication group before securing the role as brain injury coordinator.

Brain Injury Co-Ordinator

Rona started out as a volunteer and organised extremely successful fundraising events on the side, we snapped Rona up to join the team as brain injury coordinator and have enjoyed watching Rona develop alongside the service over the previous years.

The Faces of Our Charity

We also have a small team of contracted specialists who run tailored sessions to our clients throughout the week.

Art Tutor

I'm Emma, mum to twin identical girls and a self employed Seascape artist. I started out my career in model design in London after gaining a degree in Model Design and Special Effects.

I joined Headway in March 2023 as the Art therapy tutor and I absolutely love exploring the client's artistic potential and having them leave feeling they have achieved something that they might not have known was possible.

I joined as a trustee in August 2023, I have lived in the area for many years and I would like to give back to the community by helping Headway MK as much as I can to expand the current business and meet the key objectives of helping more people with head trauma and brain injury. I have 30 years business experience in the software and Information Technology industry, helping people achieve their goals by improving the way they work with data. I have become a Trustee of Headway MK to give my perspective on improving the Milton Keynes branch and helping the team develop a plan for success.
